Privatisation of municipal property in Sofia (enterprises
and non-residential real estates) is executed by SOFIA MUNICIPAL
PRIVARISATION AGENCY (SMPA). According to the Law on Privatisation
and Post-Privatisation Control, the Agency is a specialised
body of Sofia Municipal Council. In the world economy this
activity is known under the name of “small scale” privatisation.
Offered for sale sites (shops, restaurants, bistros, workshops
etc..) are situated on the ground floor of residential buildings
in different districts of Sofia. Seldom there are whole buildings
with adjoining area in Privatisation List. All these sites
are very attractive for investors from small-scale and medium-scale
business.
Basic privatisation methods are auction and tender.
Sofia Municipal Privatisation Agency is created at the end
of 1992.
From 1992 to 2010 Sofia Municipal Privatisation Agency worked
out 18 annual programs adopted and approved by Sofia Municipal
Council. 17 programs have been already successfully fulfilled
and 2 500 deals to the total value of 280 million US dollars (201 million euros)
have been concluded.
In view of efficient management of the accumulated privatisation
incomes, was established a Municipal Privatisation Fund by
means of which the strategic relationship between privatisation
and investment policy of the municipality was put into practice.
This way investment projects of great importance for the capital
city have been prepared, started and realised.
The activity of Sofia Municipal Privatisation Agency changed
the aspect of the property in the Bulgarian capital. Over
96% of the municipal property in Sofia have been already privatised.
